TOP LEADERSHIP OF ETHIOPIAN RULING PARTY CONCLUDES THREE-DAY MEETING ON NATIONAL ISSUES

ADDIS ABABA-- he Executive Committee of Ethiopia's ruling party, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has concluded a three-day meeting held to map out major directions for national socio-economic and political issues.

After deliberating on the implementation of the decisions taken at its 10th Congress, the Executive Committee thoroughly discussed the country's ongoing reforms and preparations for the 11th Congress and set major directions for the party. The 11th Congress will be organized under the theme National Unity for Versatile Prosperity.

The Executive Committee agreed on the need to institutionalize and lay a legal framework for the ongoing reforms to pursue with speed the actions at hand and to ascertain the desired targets, according to a party statement issued here Sunday.

The need to strengthen the country's multi-party system, harmonizing the sense of ethnicity and being Ethiopian within a system of federalism, and sectoral reforms to build a strong public service delivery system are among issues emphasized by the Executive Committee.

Meanwhile, it has also identified the country's weak export performance, shortage of foreign exchange, low revenue collecting system, rent-seeking and poor governance as issued to be addressed through research.

The Executive Committee called on the party's leadership and members and the people at large to carry out their respective responsibilities towards pursuing the ongoing reforms in a consolidated manner.
