SUDANESE PRESIDENT RETURNS FROM ATTENDING SECURITY FORUM IN ETHIOPIA

KHARTOUM, May 1– Sudan’s President Omer Al-Bashir has returned here from the northwestern Ethiopian city of Bahir Dar where he took part in the 3rd Tana Forum on Security and Stability in Africa.

He was received upon his return at Khartoum Airport Wednesday by the First Vice-President Lieutenant-General Bakri Hassan Salih, and a number of ministers and senior officials.

The Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa was held last weekend under the theme “Illicit Financial Flows and their impact on Peace and Security in Africa”.

The Chairperson of the Forum, former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, said illicit financial flows — by some conservative estimates, Africa loses 60 billion US dollars annually — were making the challenges of peace, security and stability more complex.

“What we are trying to do is get decision-makers in politics and diplomacy, in the private sector, academia and civil society to realize that this is a pernicious evil that requires effective action to curb,” he said.

The 3rd Tana Forum focused on the convergence between security and illicit financial flows.
