Meeting of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General opens tomorrow in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 14, 2014 – The Meeting of STC on Justice and Legal Affairs (Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General, Ministers responsible for Issues such as Human Rights, Constitutionalism and Rule of Law) begins holding tomorrow, Thursday 15 May 2014 and is expected to go till 16 May 2014 at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Ministers will consider and adopt the report presented by the Meeting of Government Legal Experts of the STC on Justice and Legal Affairs.

With a mission to develop instruments that reflect the collective shared values of the AU Member States, the Ministerial meeting will consider the following Draft agendas: Report of the Meeting of the Government Legal Experts; Draft African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation (Niamey Convention);Draft African Union Cyber-Security Convention; Draft African Union Cyber-Security Convention;Draft African Charter on the Values and Principles of Decentralisation, Local Governance and Local Development;Draft Protocol on Amendments to the Protocol on the Statute of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights; Draft Protocol to the Constitutive of the African Union relating to the Pan-African Parliament; Draft Rules of procedure of the Specialized Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs; Draft Protocol on the Establishment of the African Monetary Fund; Draft African Model Law on Biosafety.

Participants will include African Ministers of Justice/Attorneys General, Ministers responsible for issues such as human rights, constitutionalism and rule of Law, Legal Experts from AU Member States Representatives from the African Court on Human and Human and Peoples’ Rights; Pan African Parliament (PAP); African Union Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, African Union Commission on the International Law.
