House Approves 8 Chairpersons of Standing Committees, Rejects Two

Addis Ababa The House of Peoples' Representatives today approved the assignment of eight chairpersons of standing committees, while rejecting two.

Five of the chairpersons that the House approved in its extraordinary meeting held today are women.

In its ordinary session held last Tuesday, the House had failed to approve the nominees due to disagreement on some of the candidates.

In today's session, it has put all of the 10 candidates that are going to chair the standing committees of the House to a vote.

Accordingly, the House has approved four of the nominees � Fozia Amin, Mohamed Yesuf, and Emye Bitew � unanimously.

It also approved another four � Getachew Meles, Almaz Mesele, Fetia Yesuf, and Ashenafi Gaami � with majority vote.

However, it rejected the assignment of two of the nominees � Motuma Mekasa and Atsibiha Aregawi.

The House has also referred a proposal from for the dismissal of a Federal Supreme Court judge � Ayele Dibo � to the pertinent standing committee.

The proposal from Federal Judicial Administration Council requested for his dismissal due to a gross breach of discipline, which it said is using his power for personal use.

The House referred the proposal to the Law, Justice and Democracy Affairs standing committee for further scrutiny.
