ETHIOPIAN PM SAYS JUST-ENDED VISIT OF CHINESE PREMIER HAS DEEPENED BILATERAL TIES

ADDIS ABABA, May 8- The just concluded visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Ethiopia, which culminated in the signing of a number of agreements, has been successful in deepening bilateral ties, says Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

After seeing off Li from Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, Hailemariam said the visit was a success not only because of the agreements signed but also the expression of China’s readiness to support Ethiopia in its development efforts, Hailemariam said.

The two countries signed 16 economic and diplomatic accords to further strengthen the existing relationship.
Four of the agreements were signed to establish industrial parks in Ethiopia, which reflected China’s commitment to supporting the industrialization of Ethiopia, Hailemariam said.

The two countries also reached consensus on the establishment of the Africa-China Railway Academy in Ethiopia, he added.

Jailemariam said China had welcomed Ethiopia’s strategic co-operation framework and was willing to support Ethiopia in its railway, telecommunications, power generation, and road development.

The Chinese Premier has left for Nigeria and will also visit Angola and Kenya in his current tour of Africa. During his stay in Nigeria, the Premier is expected to attend the World Economic Forum being held in Abuja.
