ETHIOPIAN P.M. MEETS MEMBERS OF US CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION

ADDIS ABABA-- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks here Thursday with members of a United States Congressional delegation led by Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Christopher Smith (Rep-New Jersey).

Also in the delegation is Karen Bass (Dem-California), ranking member of the Sub-Committee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights.

During his discussion with the visiting delegation, Abiy urged the US to closely support the current democratic and developmental changes in Ethiopia, said the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister's Office, Fitsum Arega. who added that the delegation members assured the Premier that they will promote Ethiopia upon their return home.

Both stated that they had been following closely the recent changes which have taken place in Ethiopia.

The delegation also met Ethiopian Minster of Foreign Affairs Workneh Gebeyehu to discuss issues of political reforms and human rights.

Smith is the author of the House Resolution (HR 128), passed by the Congress, which condemned human rights abuses in Ethiopia.
