ETHIOPIAN CUSTOMS IMPLEMENTS NEW MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TO COMPLY WITH GLOBAL STANDARDS

ADDIS ABABA-- The Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) has implemented a new electronic Customs Management System (CMS) to help it comply with international Customs standards.

The CMS Project Manager, Ababu Emiru, said here Wednesday that the system was implemented under a European Union-funded project to design, customize and deploy a Customs management system at all of the ERCA's operational stations.

The new system, which replaces the existing Automated System for Customs and Data (ASYCUDA ), fully became operational at co-ordinating offices in Djbouti, Galaffi, Mile, Adama, Mojo, East Industry Park, Gelan, Addis Ababa-Kality and Bole-Lemi Industrial Park, he added.

The CMS will also partially be implemented at Moyale and Metema Yohannes Customs Stations, the Project Manager asaid, adding that the CMS was expected to fill the gaps which had been identified at the existing ASYCUDA through applying an intelligent risk management system.

The CMS will also provide transparency in business transactions, promote predictable, fast and economical clearance operations, he said.
