Egyptian President Al-Sisi Takes up AU Chairmanship

Addis Ababa Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi took up chairmanship of the African Union (AU) at its 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the union here in Addis Ababa.

President Al-Sisi has replaced the outgoing Chairman of the Union, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

During his term, Al-Sisi is expected to focus on security and financial reform, other than enhancing African Union partnership with multilateral powers.

The AU general assembly consists of 55 heads of state, and meets once a year at its headquarter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The assembly is considered as the AU's supreme council as it establishes its priorities, adopts its annual program and monitors the implementation of its policies and decisions, it was indicated.
