ADFM to Pursue Peaceful Political Struggle

Addis Ababa Eritrea based rebel group, Amhara Democratic Forces Movement (ADFM) has agreed to return and continue a peaceful political struggle at home.

Representatives of the Amhara Regional State and ADFM signed a reconciliation agreement in Asmara on Thursday.

The agreement provides for the ADFM to pursue its political activities in Ethiopia through peaceful means, according to Yemane Gebremeskel, Eritrea's Minister of Information.

Following the current political reforms under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, many leaders of exiled political opposition parties have been returning home.

It is recalled that the government of Ethiopia and the OLF also signed a similar agreement this month in Asmara.

The agreement, reached between Chief Administrator of the Oromia regional state, Lemma Megerssa and OLF Chairman, Dawd Ibsa, provides for cessation of hostilities.

The agreement further states that the OLF will conduct its political activities in Ethiopia through peaceful means.

Furthermore, Eritrea-based Patriotic Ginbot 7 Movement for Unity and Democracy, led by Professor Brhanu Nega has already agreed to move to Ethiopia.
