The Plague

Wednesday, May 14 saw a massive swarm of desert locusts blanket the Addis Abeba sky, specifically above the Ayat area, in the Kolfe District. The same event was witnessed in the east of the country by swarms originating from breeding locations in the northwest coast of Somalia. The swarms are highly mobile and have spread to Dire Dawa and the Awash Valley. Citizens were shocked and surprised at the sight, as this is not an expected yearly event in the city, though locusts swarm in different times and areas.
