Celebrating One Hundred Years of Business

De La Rue, the British integrated commercial banknote printer, marks its one hundred year anniversary of entering the Ethiopian market. In commemoration, the company has sponsored the UK’s Queen’s birthday celebrations held at the British Embassy in Addis Abeba on the April 24, 2014.

De La Rue, who received its inaugural order from Ethiopia in 1914 from the Bank of Abyssinia for the issuing of bank notes, has also been manufacturing Ethiopian passports for years in partnership with the Berhanena Selam Printing Press of Ethiopia. The company has also produced bank cheques for the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, as well as other companies in the financial sector, according to the company.

The group that has in recent years been involved in the design or production of over 150 national currencies plans to engage more in the Ethiopian market, it stated.
