IGAD Urges Political Parties to Respect Will of Kenyans

Addis Ababa, Chairperson of IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn called on all political parties and candidates yesterday to respect the will of the people of Kenya and to refrain from any act that might be of disruptive nature to the peace and stability of the country.

Hailemariam stated that IGAD has been closely following the elections that took place on 8th August 2017 and appreciates the way they have been conducted so far in a peaceful, orderly and transparent manner.

He said the people of Kenya casted their vote to elect their leaders democratically.

IGAD, therefore, calls on all political parties and candidates to respect the will of the people of Kenya and to refrain from any act that might be of disruptive nature to the peace and stability of the country.

The press release said IGAD would like to urge the concerned parties to stay calm until the whole process is completed to ensure a successful conclusion of the democratic exercise.
