Ethiopia Calls for Restraint amid Djibouti – Eritrea Tension

Addis Ababa ,Ethiopia called on all parties for restraint as tension between Djibouti and Eritrea has intensified, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In a press release it sent to ENA, the Ministry called for restraint from escalating tensions and resolve differences in peaceful means.

Tensions intensified between the two countries over a disputed border territory after the withdrawal of Qatari peacekeepers.

The release said that Ethiopia fully supports the statement issued on the situation the Chairperson of AU Commission, including the deployment of fact finding mission to the area.

The African Union on Saturday urged for restraint as tensions intensified between the two countries.

AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat called for calm and restraint, and said AU would send a fact-finding mission to the Djibouti-Eritrea border.

Ethiopia encourages the United Nations to support this endeavor.

The release also said that Ethiopia is following closely developments on the matter that happened after Qatar withdrew its peacekeeping troop from the area.
